An Award Winning Community
The City of Hamilton has been a forward thinking City for years in regards to generating clean, renewable power. Greenup Hydroelectric plant, along the Ohio River, provides an annual average 45% of the City’s electricity. The additional power is generated by the City’s power plant operated on North 3rd Street. Currently, three agreements have been made for the addition of Meldahl Hydroelectric Plant along the Ohio River providing, in conjunction with Greenup, 65% of the City’s energy, Prairie State energy Campus which will provide 34MW of electric per day, and Fremont Energy Center providing 25MW per day. With these agreements by 2013, 70% of the City’s electricity will be generated by a clean, renewable source. We provide electricity at a 15%-18% cheaper rate than area competitors.
